2011 Year in Rap: Example
‘Bout got into fist-a-cuffs with a trust-a-far-ian1
Over the Ninety-nine Percent
And I’m a liber-tar-ian
It’s easy to dismiss the Movement2 when you’re all grown
your ‘rents still payin’ your rent
And you livin’ on your own
Get off my back MISSION ACCOMPLISHED Obama ends War in Iraq
Eyes on the prize, no made up WMD’s
SEAL Team Six ran the QB-sneak like a ring wearin’ Drew Brees
Were it not for that burned out hull of a Sikorsky 3
Our man in Pakistan wouldn’t’ve known ‘bout our attack
Osama Bin Laden buried at sea
And now twenty-eleven comes to end
‘Nother byte outta the Apple, the Woz4 lost his best friend
Notes:
1. Trustafarian here refers to someone who has a trust fund, a large sum of money set aside by wealthy parents or an estate.
2. The “Movement” and the “Ninety-nine Percent” both refer to OWS and its offshoots.
3. Sikorsky is a military helicopter whose makers are a Connecticut based company.
4. The “Woz” is a moniker of Steve Wozniak, who co-founded Apple Computers with Steve Jobs.

THE 2K11 RAP-O-THE CENTURY!
The 2012 presidential election,
Things are heated up with the Republican selection.
But Cain dropped out, told it was too risky,
Too many rumors about him getting frisky!
Now we turn our attention to the Occupy Movement,
Striving and fighting for economic improvement.
“I am the 99%” that was their slogan,
But the cops thought they were only kids causin’ a commotion.
Let’s take a trip to Africa, were the Arab Spring began.
Libya, Egypt, Syria, and Yemen all had a plan:
Revolt against the government, freedom’s what they talk about.
After all those years, can’t blame them for acting out.
And finally, the death of a great technical giant,
Started it all in his garage, the man was brilliant!
He made the Macs, the iPod, the iTouch, and more,
It makes me teary-eyed to think Steve Job ain’t here anymore.
— Geraldine R.
I think its good and i like how he rapped about whats going on today and how it talked about real world events

My favorite Rap so Far
Open my copy of the New York Times-
Suddenly I am feelin’ like Busta Rhymes!
From Casey Anthony winning her case
to Charlie Sheen and his fall from grace.
Japan suffered a major quake
and the world reached out in its wake.
Unemployment rates continue to tower
and the 99 percent wants their rise to power.
As Libya liberates and Egypt riots,
America watches the Kardashian’s go on diets.
Winehouse goes ‘Back to Black’ one final time-
gas prices are still on their climb.
Osama bin Laden is found by the troops-
NBA players locked out of their hoops.
Will and Kate finally did wed-
Now it’s the time to put 2011 to bed.
-Gina V. (Faribault High School)
This rap/poem I think is the best because this rap mentions all of the major events and/or problems that happened in 2012 and the person did so without offending anyone.

2011 year rap
- the best news rap that was posted on the New York Times was the third one it excedeed all expectations that was required. it was catchy and the way he put the words the together was intellegent.
Globally Speaking
The Streets of New York were filled with ninety-nine percenters.
All were trying to make their voice louder than a tenor.
Going Ham in Oakland.
All the protestors were outspoken.
All were trying to make their voice louder than a tenor.
Going Ham in Oakland.
All the protestors were outspoken.
We strive to do the nine to five.
But Congress feeding us nothing but jive.
European debt.
Is something we all fret.
‘Cause when it comes to that money.
It ain’t funny honey.
Globally speaking.
All the countries will be freaking.
But Congress feeding us nothing but jive.
European debt.
Is something we all fret.
‘Cause when it comes to that money.

Twin towers were tall.
But Arabs made them fall.
One nation together.
Those lost we’ll always remember.
But Arabs made them fall.
One nation together.
Those lost we’ll always remember.
Hurricane Irene.
Knocked the nation harder then Charlie Sheen.
East Coast damage if I had to bet.
It’d send the U.S into even more debt.

-this is a good rap length is more than the format says so this might b disqualified, this rap says a lot about current and past history it goes from 9/11 to the 99%r's, H.A.M., and going to work is hard theses days. not all based in 2011. all the verses go together and make sense i'll give it a good 7/12

I think that this rap is the best one to me . I think that this one is good because it shows way more than one top news story. It ryhmes pretty well and has a good meaning to it. I also think that it shows what it is about and how the news in 2011 affects us all. She is also saying that we need to get rid of 2011 7 bring on 2012 with a new year , new people. Hopefully we will get more good news this year , unlike what happend.
Her Rap explains alot that happend , and i like how she did it & how she wrote it.

2011 Rap
2011
Since 2011 the Afghan war went on
Many people died, some cried, man that was long
Obama said, “STOP!” its time to get them out of there
By 2012 all of the troops will be elsewhere

We all know about the day of 9/11
Devastation and corruption struck that’s what happened
Now today we have a memorial it’s opened to the public
People go and pay respect, it’s a very touchy subject

We headin to the big J-A-P-A-N
We know about he earthquake that had happened
Disaster had struck and many families gone
Now their recovered will it last long
We know about he earthquake that had happened

We all know about horrible Irene
It was really a devastating scene
It went down on the east coast
Its true to believe but its not fair though

After reading and analyzing this poem, I believe it will win the contest. It's very well written and the idea of 2011 is greatly captured. It's not about celebrity issues that Americans thrive on. It's about worldy issues that people that lived during this time will always remember. What's written in this poem/rap is newsworthy information that hundreds of years from now, people will care to know about-as it's apart of the history of the world. I read several other raps/poems and though they were well written, they had several things that revolved around celebrities and such - things that really won't matter in the fuure. So, in my opinion, this is the best poem/rap that describes 2011 in an appropriate, easy-to-read, short, but entertaining and informational manor.
2011 Year In Rap
The rap that I found very interesting on the competition site was by Tyler L. It speaks about the biggest subject in the world other than the economy which is Iraq and our soldiers being away from home.
Rap of the Year
The war in Iraq is almost over,
The troops can loosen their cover.
The war got bad
And now the people are glad.
The unemployment rate is declining,
Some people stopped looking
Some people got different jobs then what the were looking for,
Some that pay more.
Two bombs were found in Germany and defused,
People were wondering and confused.
Why were they just now found?
Was it because they weren’t on the ground?
A new planet was discovered,
Possibly water covered.
May have life
Or may be capable of holding life.

2011 Year in Rap
The year two-o-one-one; it was kind of fun
I had a lot of money and you others had none
Kanye West got nominated, but I don’t know if he won
The Green Bay Packers are undefeated
All the other teams retreated
Like the NBA season, aka the lock-out
Steve Jobs died; I thought he got knocked out.
Chris Paul might go to the Lakers for all you haters
Phil Jackson told them, “See you later”
Lil-B got it made
Jay-Z and Kanye dropped “Watch the Throne” & got paid
Big Sean made it last & put MC Hammer in the background
Wale improved with ambition ’cause he won’t back down
MMG was epic; Meek Millz, Rick Ross
Lil Wayne dropped number four
Wiz Khalifa went on tour.

I think this rap is a 12/12 because it has 16 lines and covers of news storys. Also includes information from news stories and summarizes events in a few words, it has a flow and makes sense. This rap is also good because its about intertaining stuff that teens would be interested. For example The Green Bay Packers are undefeated or Jay-Z and Kanye dropped "Watch the Throne" & got paid. My favorite part of the rap is "like the NBA season, aka the lock-out. Steve Jobs died; I thought he got knocked out. Chris Paul might go to the Lakers for all you haters. While reading and trying to analyze many of these poems I finally came across one that I really liked . This poem is by Gina V of Faribault High School , there were many great poems from the other contestants but in my opinion Ginas' stuck out to me more then others. The way her poem flowed from one stanza to the next was captivating to me and how she included all the news worthy events that took place in this past year of 2011 from the royal wedding to Osama Bin Ladens death was great. Her length and format was perfect as it wasnt to short or to long she included what she felt was "major topics".
what makes the raps good
I think that these raps are good because they speak on the biggest news stories of 2011, while expressing their own oppinons. I also enjoyed their creative ways of telling the details of the story while maintaining a good beat. for example, in one of the raps it saids

Morning After Pill
I think that teenagers at the age 17 should be able to make adult choices and be able to get the morning after pill. I think that doctors should still tell teenagers and young kids about the pill just in case it affects their body differently. I believe teens or kids under the age 17 should be able to go to a doctor office where they can get check up and make sure their fine without their parents knowing about it. If i was a doctor i would talk to all my teen patients about safe sex and using condoms and the morning after pill.

Fa la la Holidays :)
When I think about the word Traditions, I think of Christmas and families coming together and being happy.
In my family, one of our traditions would be decorating the christmas tree. If we did not decorate the tree, Christmas would not be the same. Another tradition we have in the Thompson Househole would be opening our gifts Christmas morning between 7 and 8 am. Afterwards we would go to our grandparents house or they would come to my house and we would open up those gifts.
Not only do we have traditions for Christmas, but also for Thanksgiving. At thanksgiving dinner we would each sit down at the table and just eat. We would do it as a whole family though. Not just me, my siblings and my parents. But me, my siblings, my parents, my aunt, my cousin, and my grandparents. We are all thankful for having each other in our lives because without them, the holidays and even everyday life would not be completed without anyone.
