Blogging About Images of Food

Task:  Visit the New York Times' interactive feature based on photos of food taken by its readers by clicking here.

Quick write two-part responses to at least two photos. The first part should reflect your initial reaction to the image. What makes it interesting, appealing or unappealing. Be as descriptive as possible. Once you have completed the first part you are encouraged to read the caption. What affect do the words have on your reaction to the dish being photographed?

Example:

Part II: In my initial response, I commented that the chicken piece still on the grill looked like a rather ordinary piece of barbequed meat albeit an appealing one. My mouth began to water increasingly when I discovered from the caption that it had been basted with a special raspberry glaze....

Once you have completed taking notes post your comments here.

Ghost . .

His vulnerabilities —His missteps, his rants, his all-too-human shortcomings —
Were also a part of his charm and underlay the love his fans still feel for him.
But then he stepped off, it was as if they had seen a ghost.
The mirror then reflects his side, one dark, and one dim—
Manipulation should be no news to fans of him.
Our lasting obsession with finding him has never been solved
But it also has to do with the fact that he was a bundle of contradictions — incredible talent, incredible recklessness, ping-ponging between serious political messages and the insistent sirens of thug life. Where did he go? Who is he? Will we see him again?
But that’s the way it is with living people, especially people who live large and he lived large.
Is that why he disappeared? But, hey After all, he was the guy who always had an even stronger visual trickery. He seemed alive only because we like to think of him so. But they don’t have the complexity, or the humanity, to really compel our interest. He’s ghosts — ghosts in a new machine, perhaps — but at best they are no more than the shadow of the shadows that they cast upon us, back when they were alive.

The finale

Before they took the court
took a calculated gamble
a chance to change the standings.
It was an encouraging moment
It just shows how valuable the victory
chances to pad the lead in the final minute
it was more important to protect The lead
the final buzzer
that was the only stand that mattered
allowing the escape with a victory
 felt great felt strong

The Sky's the Limit

Get plenty of sleep. Research suggests that growing teenagers and pre-teens need between 8.5 and 11 hours of sleep every night. This is because your body grows and regenerates tissue while you're at rest. Make your sleeping environment as calm as possible, and try to eliminate loud noises and unnecessary light. If you have trouble falling asleep, try taking a warm bath or drinking a hot cup of chamomile tea before bed.
Eat right. Ensuring that you're getting all the vitamins and minerals your body requires will help you grow to your full height. Take a supplement targeted at your age group with breakfast each morning, and try to incorporate certain foods into your diet. Get plenty of calcium (found in dairy products and green vegetables), vitamin D (which can be obtained through eating fish or spending more time in the sun) and protein (from meat, tofu or legumes). You should be eating 3 meals a day, with small snacks between breakfast and lunch, and lunch and dinner.
Keep your immune system strong. Some childhood illnesses can stunt your growth. Most of them can be avoided by the routine immunizations you may have had as a baby, but stay on the safe side by ingesting plenty of Vitamin C (found in citrus fruits such as oranges, grapefruits and lemons) and getting plenty of rest as soon as you notice that you feel sick.

Ending Relationships

Think of any and all sites that you log into using Facebook connect. That means any site that is not Facebook itself but lets you log in using the same username and password as you do for Facebook. Once you know every one of the sites on this list, go to each of them and close your accounts. If you log in to any of those sites during the cancellation period (which lasts two weeks) your account will be instantly reinstated and you'll have to start over again. You can always recreate the accounts later.
Visit the Facebook Account Deletion Page. If you're asked to log in, go ahead and do so. When you see the page called "Delete My Account" with two buttons, click the one labeled "Submit."
Next you will be asked "You are about to permanently delete your account. Are you sure?" If you are, when ready, click "Okay."
After you confirm, do nothing—really, do nothing. It will take time for the account deletion to actually set in, so if you log back into your account anytime in the next two weeks.
Once the two weeks have passed without any login in any way, shape, or form, your account will be gone for good.

Education Battle in Media

Lanecia Peeler
I believe that education reform is such a hot button issue and receiving the great deal of media attention because education is important and also their many issues pertaining to education. From my point of view I think the education system is broke mainly because of teacher effectiveness/tenure. Many teachers really just do not care about their student’s education and just want to hurry up and retire. If they took away all the teachers who do not care about children education then their wouldn’t be many teachers in the school system. Most of the responsibility does go to the student because if the student is not in class then they will never learn. In the video they stated the quality of education was greater than it is now and I believe that only because the generations are different and kids are not pushed as much as the kids in the 50s where.

" Editor-in-Chief "

What I know about the New Haven Magnet Schools’ Lottery is that when you are going to a middle school, or high school, you fill out an application for the Magnet School Lottery. [i1] Whichever school the computer picks you to go to is what school your put in. No, I do not think the system is fair because many people do not get into the school that they want to go to. I did the application for the New Haven Lottery when I was in the 8th Grade for high school. I got into this school but was wait listed at my other 2 choices.
The feature film that can be compared to the article is Waiting for Superman. The significance is that it talks about the education reform that is going on in the city of New Haven. It tells another side of the issues of education that many people do not know.[i2]  The coverage of the type of news they received is equal since they told of about 4 people that get into the schools that they wanted, and many more that did not get into the schools they wanted to. The effect is that you are seeing both sides of the topic, the good, and the bad side of the lottery. Yes, it can because when I got the letter from the city of New Haven I was happy I got into one of my choices so I wouldn't have to go to West Haven High but, I was disappointed that I didn't get into one of my top 2 choices.

[i1]The lottery applies to anyone wishing to enter a New Haven Pre-K through high school.
 [i2]What is the other side??
