Hell and Back Again

I chose this movie over " If A Tree Falls " because it is about a man who was in the army with a lot of ofther things that go on through out the movie. This sounds more interesting because it has more of a story to it and the whole story line grabs my attention over the If a Tree Falls movie would.

Hell and back again + Paradise lost 3: Purgatory REVIEWS!

Hell and Back Again :

This movie is about a marine who had to battle his injuries during the war. Also other traumas that he encounters. People say it's a really good movie and recommend it.

Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory =

This is about 3 guys who supposedly murder several 8 year old [boys]. They served time in jail but somehow they ended up being released last summer because they were innocent. People say it was a good movie but it was kinda disturbing at the same time.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Scott Farrar, Scott Benza, Matthew Butler and John Frazier.

I personally believe that Transformers: Dark of the Moon will be the winner of the Visual Effects Oscar. The team of visual artist[s] who worked on this motion picture had a lot on their plate. They had to design robots to transform from modern day cars and automobiles to larger farm [?]. They also had to scale them to be bigger than humans gradually, but smaller than certain buildings. Outer space was also featured in the movie; they had to show the moon and hundreds of stars. The team of visual artist[s] made everything seem realistic like the Autobots and Decepticons could actually be there.

UNDEFEATED

A documentary that follows the Manassas Tigers football team, a severely underfunded and underprivileged football [program/team] who were even hired out as a practice team for more successful schools as they reverse[d] their fortunes thanks to coach Bill Courtney.

"An Oscar nominee as best documentary, Undefeated is a sports film that's less about football than it is about a coach, his players and the journey they take together. And it's a terrific trip. The film picks him up as fall practice begins for the 2009 season and prospects aren't great. Manassas hasn't had a winning season in years and has never won a playoff game. They are doormats in their conference, their division and their state."

Hell And Back Again & The Black Power Mixtape

What Should we focus on?

I believe that we should focus on Hell and Back Again because it talks about the war and how people act when they come back from war. This can give us a perspective on how the affects of war can ruin your life or how difficult it is to get back into society.

Another documentary I will also focus on is The Black Power Mixtape due to the fact that it is [B]lack [H]istory [M]onth and we can figure a lot about our past and present. We probably will learn about the popular movements that happened in our nation like the Million Man March or the Rosa parks movement.

If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front

Nominees for Best Documentary Feature:

  • Hell And Back Again
  • If a Tree Falls
  • Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory
  • Pina
  • Undefeated
The very reason I chose to blog about, If a Tree Falls is because of how relative it is to our essential question. The documentary itself is very much a catalyst for social action and change.

Because of its enviromental premise, If a Tree Falls interests me the most. Any story about the Earth is one worth watching.

Rooney Mara- The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

Rooney Mara portrays Lisbeth Salander, a troubled young woman who is hired as a research assistant by a journalist investigating a decades-old mystery. Rooney was part of an American remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and she was the lead actress. Her acting fit the description of all the books and also Stieg Larsson's literary blockbuster The Millennium Trilogy. Columbia pictures adapted the film and certainly picked the right actor to be lead actress.

Mr. Death

Why was Fred A. Leuchter Jr. given this moniker? If the first half hour of the film charts his so-called "rise," what were his accomplishments leading up to his "fall"?

Can journalism act as a catalyst for social change?

Yes I believe so that journalism may act as a catalyst for social change because journalism helps people get more connected with each other and have more of a social life since it does require you to get involved to gain information.

Journalism, Impetus?

Can journalism act as a catalyst for social change? That is the question, and my answer is yes-it depends. If I think journalism is a local newspaper or the Metro Line, then the chances of us making a big change are very thin. However if I think journalism is something like CNN or other big media outlets then yes I do believe they can perpetuate social change.

Electric Chair

I think that the electric chair could be a bad thing or a good thing. Bad because  it would hurt really really bad. Especially if they put someone in a electric chair that doesnt deserve it  becuase their crime wasn't as bad , then i think it is not nessarcy . but it could be good because if they are needed for it then it is a good thing. Like for the people that did the chesire home invation they deserve it.

Electric Chair

After reading this post about the electric chair I feel that it is a way of torturing someone. It is basically making a person suffer and then killing them. I think that the electric chair was abad way of dealing with the situation. A lethal injection would have been more appropriate for these types of problems.

Big Questions

"What is the risk of empathy? Isn't it possible—here's the question—is it possible to empathize with      someone who clearly has done just horrible, horrible, horrible things? And by empathy, I mean is it worth trying to understand them? Is our job just simply to reject them, to moralize about them, or is our job to try to understand what's going on here?" -filmmaker Errol Morris

Electric Chair

After reading the article I feel that the author of the short story didn't show much feeling towards the victims of the electric chair. They did receive the death penalty, but to be electrocuted to death is making the person suffer before they actually die; some would even say torture.

In Anticipation of Errol Morris's Docmentary Film "Mr. Death"

When considering the title of Errol Morris's 1999 documentary film and looking back over recent content posted to the Metro Line, what do you think this film is about? Additionally, the filmmaker gave it a subtitle The Rise and Fall of Fred A. Leuchter Jr., who might Fred Leuchter be, and what is implied by his "Rise and Fall"?

Who Killed Topsy?

More importantly, what was the reasoning behind the toppling of this seemingly gentle giant? What are your thoughts?

Death Penalty

I am totally against the death penalty because to me there's no point. To me it does not make any sense at all to spend money to have people sentenced to death when they could just spend life in prison, no case is that serious even if the person killed someone they shouldn't be killed. They should just be sentenced to life in prison. It's not our place or anyone's to judge whether someone dies or not.
