French Fries
French fries are known as many different names such as batons, French-Fried potatoes, deep fried potatoes, and many more. North Americans refer to any elongated pieces of fried potatoes as fries. While in the United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand, Long thinly cut slices of fried potatoes are often called fries to distinguish them from the more thickly cut strips called chips. French fries are often known as frites, patates frites or pommes frites in French, which is also used in many Non- French-Speaking areas.
French Fries were first made by cutting new potatoes into thin slices, put them in boiling fat, and a little salt; both sides fried until a light golden brown color. “French Fried” was also being used in the sense of “Deep- Fried”, for other foods such as onion rings or chicken. Fries can also be made inside an oven.
These best fries that I know of are at a fast food place called duchess and one out in California that I been to called Jack In The Box. I never really had fries that I didn’t like since it’s one of my favorite foods to include with most dishes, but where ever I go and try them I always find some that taste better than others. The thicker the fry the more flavor they have most of the time depending how they are fried or cooked, and depending on the amount of salt. Me and a others all over probably agree too much salt is no good flavor and health wise!
In the United Kingdom the “French Fries” we refer to, are called “chips”. There they cut much thicker and are “chipped” from the potatoes. This is a popular dish in British Islands and is often included in a dish served known as “Fish n Chips”. “Chips” are occasionally made from unpeeled potatoes to enhance their flavor and nutritional value and aren’t served as crisp as other places due to their relatively high water content.

LPI: THE GREEN

Since the New Haven Green Historic District, it was designated a National Historic Landmark District on December 30, 1970.
There’s a crypt at the center church in the Green.
When  the Green was first known as the Green, it held a watch house, a prison and a school.
And the Puritans were said to have designed the green large enough to hold the number of people who they believed would be spared in the “Second Coming of Christ”.
In the Green there is to be a mythical legend about a Bennett Memorial Fountain, the fountain has fresh water coming out of two lions heads from opposite sides. It is said if you drink from the fountain you would never leave New Haven. Not sure who came up with that; that’s why it’s a myth.

Chicken Parm

Chicken Parm was originated in Italy dish that includes chicken, cheese, and tomato sauce baked together. The word chicken parmesan means from Parm which is a city in northern Italy. I think that this dish is very good actually it is my favorite dish in the whole world the reasons why I like this dish is because of the chicken and the rich sauce and cheesy blend. Some actually say the dish is known for the mozzarella cheese. My mom makes this for me for my birthdays and I love when she makes; it sometimes she makes it with breaded chicken.

Some people also like Chicken Parm on a sub roll as a sandwich, I prefer it to be eaten the classic way only on a plate nice and hot and yummy because its too perfect when its by itslef without bread is the way i like it. the restuarnt to go to for the famous Italian dish is 99 a resturant located in Wallingford ,CT or Middletown ,CT they have their own style of making it. 99's Chicken parm Italian  dish has a wounderful garlic taste . its served with a thick chicken breast breaded with rich sauce and lots of cheese mozzarella of course but on the side they add pasta and toasted garlic bread which is so amazing most of the time I have left overs to bring home to eat the next day.
Chicken parmesan can be made at home in your kitchen using these ingredients:

1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil, plus 3 tablespoons

      Fettuccine Alfredo

Fettuccine Alfredo is a pasta dish made from fettuccine pasta tossed with parmesan cheese and butter. As the cheese melts it forms a smooth and rich coating over the pasta. Fettuccine Alfredo was invented in 1914 by Alfredo di Lello, whose wife had lost her appetite during pregnancy. So he went to the kitchen and mixed up a batch of egg noodles with Parmigiano cheese, cream, and butter, and there was Fettuccine alfredo (chicken alfredo).

                                                                   Olive Garden Fettuccine Alfredo

You can get Fettuccine Alfredo from a restaurant named Olive Garden or you can buy the ingredients from the store and make it yourself:
      1/4 c. butter
      1/4 c. olive oil
1 lb. boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 3/4 inch cubes
1/2 c. chopped green onions with tops
      2 cloves garlic, minced
      1 c. whipping cream
1 pkg. of ANY Pasta Alfredo Sauce
      1 tsp. salt
      1/2 tsp. freshly ground pepper
      1/4 c. chopped fresh parsley
      2 tbsp. dried basil
      1 lb. hot, cooked fettuccine
1/2 c. freshly grated Parmesan cheese

In my opinion Fettuccine Alfredo is very good. I love to eat mines with broccoli and chicken in it. I really enjoy eating Alfredo at olive garden. I enjoy it  when my mom grandmother makes it too. At olive garden it’s more flavor than it being home cooked because of all the cheeses that’s in it. You can also add mushrooms or tomatoes to it but I prefer not to cause I don’t eat mushrooms or tomatoes. I think that Fettuccine Alfredo is a really good dish!

      Ashley's Ice Cream

Ashley's Ice Cream is personally relevant to me because in the summertime I always go to the one in Hamden because it is good, and they have my favorite flavor. I love the ice cream they have and the service isn't that bad. My favorite flavor is the Chocolate Chocolate Chip with rainbow sprinkles. This flavor is the best flavor they have to me; it is if you like chocolate anyway.

Ashley's has been around for a long time.  They openned for business in 1979 on College Street in New Haven.  Shortly after they started winning awards , and crowds would flock to the store, which made them decide to make a second store.

The owners became enamored with Ashley Whippet- the famous Frisbee catching dog (a Connecticut invention by the way, the frisbee, not the whippet obviously). This is how they got the name Ashley's Ice Cream. The biggest size ice cream they serve is on a Frisbee.

New Haven will always be the first home of Ashley's, but since their ice cream is so good they had to add other locations. Ashley’s Hamden Plaza has been scooping up creamy deliciousness in nearby Hamden since 1983. Three other locations followed: Guilford, Branford and Madison which means there are five locations. Ashley's was recently named best Ice Cream in Connecticut for its fourteenth year in a row. That shows just how good they are.

So the name Ashley's was from the world famous dog Ashley Whippet.  Ashley was famous for frisbee, his owner Alex Stein led him to the middle of Dodger's stadium and threw it across the field. Ashley caught the Frisbee six-feet in the air. Thousands of fans were surprised and enjoyed the dog . Then Alex and Ashley were separated when they put Alex in jail for having the dog in dodgers stadium.

On the left is a picture of the famous Chocolate Chocolate Chip. My favorite flavor of Ashley's Ice Cream. On the right is a picture of Ashley Whippet the dog with the Frisbee he caught .

A North American Experience of Caribbean Cuisine.

The Cooks at Lennox Cuisine prepare this extremely tasteful meal consisting of mouth watering spices and aromatic ingredients. This dish is called oxtails and rice. It usually is always served with rice and beans but white rice can be substituted in its place. On the side cabbage is served which is the common side dish for most Caribbean dishes (specifically those from West Indian backgrounds). Fried or boiled plantains top this meal off as well.

Rice and beans to the Caribbean is equivalent to  apple pie's relationship to America. It's like a symbol to their culture. Rice and beans is prepared with red kidney beans, coconut milk, rice, dried thyme, table spoon of oil and an uncut scotch bonnet pepper. These flavors combined taste amazing!

The oxtails are prepared with water, chopped tomatoes, oxtail, onions, garlic, sprig thyme, hot pepper, canned broad beans and salt. The flavor is somewhat savory (not all that much) and delicious of course.

      Jerkfish Jamaican Restaurant

My favorite type of food is bar none Jamaican cuisine. Jerk chicken, curry chicken, oxtails, beef patties, etc. I absolutely adore Jamaican food. The spices blend so well and really make the dishes worthwhile. Jerkfish a Jamaican restaurant located in the Hamden Plaza makes especially great food. I recommend the oxtail, a the signature dish. The prices could be a little lower, but in the end the food is really worth it. Here is a picture of my favorite dish:

A little fun fact of it all is that our very own Michelle Paterson works at the restaurant! Stop by, say hi and enjoy!

Pancakes :D or A Flapjack by Any Other Name...

        NO CRIME WITH PANCAKES!

"May the Griddle Be with You..."

Jedi master Mr. Monahan cooks up some Star Wars themed pancakes for his sons Oscar and Otis. He claims that although preparing pancakes for weekend breakfasts is a regular occurrence, the Star Wars moulds only come out on special occassions.

In most places in America, pancakes are often served at breakfast. For me, the smell of pancakes in the morning makes my mouth all watery. The smell is so good. Especially when they are made fresh. I chose this dish because I saw no one else doing this food for their feature. Also I like pancakes so it’s not hard for me to talk about them.

My personal favorite is chocolate chip pancakes. I like how the melted chocolate chips are so gooey in the pancake. When I take the first bite it’s like I’m on a fluffy cloud. It’s a nice warm feeling. When I cook pancakes I like when it’s golden brown. On top I like to garnish it with a little bit of butter on top and drowns it with syrup. Occasionally I put whipped cream, depending on my sugar tooth.

You can find pancakes in almost any restaurant. You can find it iHop, T.G.I Friday’s, Friendly’s, McDonald, Denny’s, and other places too. My favorite place to eat pancakes is in iHop. Their pancakes are light and fluffy. Also the pancakes they serve are huge! By eating one I get full. I give it a 4 stars overall.

      First Burger, Son

Louis Lunch is a burger joint located at 263 Crown Street, New Haven, Connecticut, that claims to be the birthplace of the hamburger. There is a slight catch for some lovers of traditional American cuisine; NO KETCHUP ALLOWED! No Heinz, Hunt's, store brand or catsup is allowed in this restaurant because they say that the burger is so good that it doesn’t need it. According to wikipedia Louis Lassen worked as a butter dealer prior to opening Louis Luncheon. The store was established in 1895 and has been in operation ever since.

I have lived in New Haven for all of my 18 years, and the first time I tasted a Louis Lunch hamburger was last year. When I bought a $5.00 hamburger from Louis Luncheon it was worth it because it lived up to its hype. You can try and compare a cheeseburger from McDonald's, Wendy’s or Burger King, but they all shadow by camparison to the OB (original burger) Louis Lunch. Louis's burgers are so amazing that those from fast food restaurants need condiments, such as ketchup and mustard. Come visit Louis Lunch to get the great sensation taste of the burger.
