NYT and Flocabulary 2011 Year-in-Review Rap Competiton

Although the contest deadline is not until January, your individual or extremely small group i.e. pair project/completed rap is due to me no later than Tuesday, December 20.

Last time we met you listed the top news stories of year; this will be useful when composing your rap. Before we get too involved in our own writing process, I ask that you check out the competetion by following this link.

Scroll down to the comment section and read through the student submissions (there really aren't that many just yet). Next, choose the submission you think is the best and write a comment here explaining what makes it a strong rap. Refer to the provided rubric to support your ideas. Because it is either difficult or impossible to link to specific comments/raps be sure to provide work cited/attribution. Also provide specific examples from the text.

Once you have posted your comment you are to complete Brainstorm and How to Create handout.

  2. After reading all of the submissions I found one that I liked which is by Gina V.from Faribault High School. I believe that this one is the best one so far. Since, it has a variety of topics. Giving the reader an over view of the major things that have happened in 2011. Plus it rhymes and shows rhythm.

  3. The poem that caught my attention on the link page with the competition raps was by Tyler L. He explains Iraq and how people feel about our troops
