Is Silence Golden?

What impression(s) do you think are made on the speaker and the greater community when we remain silent? How does it reflect on us as individuals, as a community of learners and our leaders?

  1. when we remain silent, It show's the speaker that where respectfull & that where some what paying attention & or at least are showing them respect. As individuals, it shows that we have respect for the speaker & that we have home tranning & as leaders it shows that this is how people should be when there is a speaker.

  3. I think that the impression that is made on the speaker and the greater community when we remain silent is that we don't care about what the speaker has to say. As individuals, a community of learners, and our leaders it shows that we don't care to learn more about the topic of the presentation or that we are not prepared with questions before-hand.

    1. This is a thoughtful response. I agree that students could have been better prepared and that it is a shared responsibilty to improve the experiences of both future presenters and audience members.

  5. I think the impression that it made was that we dont care. But sometimes thats not the case. Sometimes when we dont have the time to ask questions while they are talking that they tend to answer the questions that we have. I think it makes us look bad because we look as if we wasnt listening. --Amber Jackson

  7. I think that the impression that is made on the speaker and the greater community when we remain silent is that we don't give a flying flail. It shows that we are not interested in what they are talking about. So I believe sometimes being silent is kind of worng.

  8. I think that we make a bad impression, like we are not paying attention or something. I think it is very disrespectful especially when they ask if we have a question. How it makes us seem as a school is that we are not a good school, either we don’t care or we were not paying attention. Overall it is very mean and disrespectful.

  9. Basically if someone asks you somthin and they get no response period that shows signs of disrespect like your ignoring them but in most cases for me like when the speaker was speaking and she asked us a question and i was silent only because i really aint know what to ask

  11. Silence can be good or bad. If someone is quiet it can be bad because they may view you as if you do not care or just do not care much to comment on the subject. Silence can be good because maybe it will make someone guess more and want to more about you, or even take you as more serious about whatever the situation is.

  12. Silence can go both ways. It can be good to be silent, but it can also be bad. Silence is good because it will let the other party speak and it gives you time to analyze their words and come up with an argument. Silence is also good when someone is trying to provoke you to do something. It is bad when you should be speaking, but instead you say nothing. Silence depends on the situation and whether it will better it or not. I believe this is what the speaker was trying to say.

  13. When we remain silent it's because were interested on what the speaker has to say. But in some cases if the topic is boring or pointless most poeple remain silent because they have to. It doesnt mean that theyre actually paying attention. You can tell by the facial expression on the person. But if the topic is interesting to the people you would see them sitting up right, making eye-contact, and asking questions at the end. It reflects on us by showing the speaker respect

  14. The Impression that is made on the speaker was the audience being silent, shows Respect and honor. Besides answering or asking questions we did good. It reflects us by going into a postive rout that she did, so we wont end up useless. Never give up was what she was trying to say but that was the only part that people can listen to. "POSITIVE WORDS" is what our community learners need to hear from our LEADERS.

  15. i do beleive silence is golden , the one who speaks but never listens doesnt understand yet the one who listens and never speaks understands . . silence can go along way and i think it says the most words. the people who say alot are in alot. less is more in a way when you say you get more success you talk to much and it will be hendered. compare a girl who talks alot in class to one who doesnt grades and review the difference. Another example is an interview if the interviewer talks more then the interviewee its good because you have less chance to say the wrong thing silence is golden you'll perservere a close mouth doesnt get fed but in some cases it does though it really does.
