Journalism News Consumption Survey

  1. How often do you read the newspaper (in either print or online) or watch the news?
  2. How often do you encounter a news item that contains unfamiliar references that hinder your interest in or understanding of the story?
  3. When you lack background knowledge for a news story, do you tend to try to find out more or stop reading or watching the story?
  4. Do you ever look up information when you’re reading or watching a news story? If so, what resources do you use?
  5. What, if anything – kinds of features in newspapers and on newspaper Web sites, school activities, and so on – would encourage you to follow the news more closely?

  1. 1.I read the newspaper about once every two months. I watch the news about 4 times out of a month.
    2.I encounter a news item that contains unfamiliar references more than likely, if I don’t understand the story I become uninterested.
    3.Yes, when I lack background knowledge for a news story, I tend to try to find out more information because I become intrigued by what I already know, which makes me want to learn more.
    4.Depending on how interested I am in what I’m reading or watching I look up information about it. I usually go to Google or go to the news channel’s website.
    5.I like global issues and national issues, political issues, entertainment etc.

  3. 1. I perfer to watch the news than read the news paper. I watch the news everymorning before school.

    2. Everytime I read the news paper I encounter a unfamilar reference that hinders my interest or understanding of the story.

    3. When I dont have background knowledge of a news story I will find out the important information on my own.

    4. Yes I always look up information when im reading or watching a news story. I mostly use Google.
